Why does my screen work until I lock it

my tablet will boot up fine and I'm able to unlock it and use it, however once I lock it with the power button the screen will go black as it should but I can't wake it up again. the tablet seems to be on because I can hear the charging sound if I replug it.

the menu, Home and back buttons also aren't working at all.
