Would the bottom case of a 2013 retina MacBook Pro fit a 2012 unibody

With the better vents on the newer bottom cases, I was wondering if doing this would help cool the older unibody models. When I look at photos of the 2 bottom cases the screws look like they are in the same locations. So, I don't see why they would not fit besides possibly being a slightly different size.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Sorry the Unibody and Retina series cases are physically and mechanically different.

The air flow at the vent area in not the root issue in the either series, the buildup of dust on the fan blades and heatsink fin area of years of use. Also making sure the vent areas are not blocked by sitting the system down on your bed blankets or fluffy rug.

I also recommend using a good thermal monitoring app like TG Pro it will allow you to better monitor your systems thermals and allow you to boost the fans RPM when you need more cooling.

Lastly the heatsink is filled with a liquid which can lead out reducing the effectiveness of the heat transfer. You may need a new heatsink.
