My phone won't turn on without charging cable pushed in and turned on

Generally when a device won't turn on unless its charging cord is plugged in, that means the battery is dead and can no longer hold a charge at all. In your case you're in luck that this is an older model phone that's designed to allow owners to replace the battery themselves so it's a very simple procedure.

That's what I'd start with, a new battery. You can definitely peek inside where the battery contacts are and make sure the springs are sticking out far enough and don't have anything like corrosion or dirt keeping them from making good contact with the battery.

Those are the first things for you to check, so make sure the battery pins are good and if they are, spring for a new battery then come on back here and let us know what happens. If neither of those suggestions fixes it, we'll try and figure out what your next step should be.
