Remove sand from Sony ZV-1?

Is there is a standardized way to clean out foreign objects from the camera? If so, where can I find directions to open the camera and clean it?

My Sony ZV-12 displays the message "Please turn the camera off and back on", then turns off when I turn it on. I took it to the local camera store, and they said it's because of the sand stuck in the camera, and to send it to Sony.
I don't see the ZV-1 listed here.

Update (01/04/24)

@oldturkey03 Thank you for your answer!

I tried all the ideas from the website link. While I did remove grains of sand, the lens still won't open up. Now when I turn the camera on, there is no attempt for the lens to open and expand. No machinery sound either. The Turn Camera OFF then ON message still appears.

  • Would replacing the lens solve the issue?
  • Where would I get lens replacement parts?

Would it be better to sell the camera for parts and buy a new one?

Thank you for your advice. Apologies for the late response; I'm a parent of two kids, so getting around to fixing things takes some time. :)

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

@cwcoates sure sounds like a stuck lens. Try the ideas from this site first. If none of that works, you will have to most likely work/replace your lens. No, you don't need to send it to Sony and spend your hard earned money on feeding the profit-before-people/planet machinery. Use something like this SM Sony ZV 1 a couple of brushes and an air blower and you should be back in business.

While you work on your camera, take lots of pictures. Once you are done with it, take those pictures and create a guide for iFixit. That will help the next person that has the same problem as you do. It's easy and fun to create these guides. https://ifixit.com/Guide/new The iFixit community will appreciate this.
