ERR message when using 500mm Tamron lens

My D850 is stopped working and displayed an ERR message when I started using a 500mm Tamron lens. I removed the lens and carefully cleaned the contacts, and the ERR message cleared. However, it's happened a couple of times again since the initial issue. The lens seems to work fine with my D5200 camera body, so I don't believe the issue is the lens. Has anyone else been through this and found a solution other than sending the camera body to Nikon?

Your issue is a bit of slop in the lens mount. Some lenses can get worn but they typically will fail across different body’s. Here it’s likely the mount springs ar a little soft often an occurrence with long heavy lenses as they can pull on the mount and many people hold the camera body instead of the heavier lens.

The issue is the lens present pin which is that little cone shaped pin on the mount face. It need to be depressed by the lens to tell the body a lens is present. A mount that doesn’t hold the lens tightly will create this problem and if the chrome finish has worn off that’s a sign the mount needs to be replaced.
