My right Joycon won’t turn on when it’s taken off the system

it works fine in handheld mode but as soon as I take it off the system it won’t turn on and the green lights will go from the the top to the bottom once and then turn off. I’ve tried holding the little button between SR and SL and that doesn’t work either, I don’t want to send it in to get repaired because it’s a special splatoon 3 edition controller but I’m starting to think I might have to

Answer this question I have this problem too

I'm not an expert on these Joy-Con controllers, but it sure sounds like a battery issue. When it's plugged into the console it gets power from there and charges its own battery at the same time but once it's unplugged then it has to run on the internal battery only it isn't, is it?

So I guess that's where I'd start, by at least checking if not replacing the battery. If nothing else you could always open them both up and swap batteries and see what happens.
