3 beeps issue and is the ifixit ps5 power supply returnable?

So, for the last 2 weeks my PS5 would just completely shut off after long (4-6 hrs) PS5 gaming sessions of one particular game. Didn't have this same problem while idling on home screen, running Netflix or less demanding games. The only way to get it back on was after I removed the power plug for quite a while. I usually let it sit off for several hours before even trying to play again. However today after it cut out and I plugging it back in, the PS5 gives 3 beeps 2-3 seconds after plug in and won't boot back up..

My suspicion is the power supply went out because I used it A LOT since 11/2020 and never cleaned it out (I'm lazy 🤷‍♂️)... Bad move, I know.

I feel very comfortable opening it and want to try replacing the power supply. However, if a functioning power supply doesn't actually fix this and I end up not needing it, are their power supplies returnable? How would that go? Can I pay them the return shipping and they just send me a label? I'm paralyzed and in a wheelchair so that would make it much more convenient for me. I don't mind paying a few bucks to try this way but really don't want to lose the full $100. Especially since if it doesn't fix it I'll end up having to drop $500 on a new console.

So any help / opinions about...

1) my console not booting up and if the odds are it IS the power supply AND

2) my questions about returning it if it ends up not fixing my power issue

... would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks! 🙂

Answer this question I have this problem too

Regarding iFixit's return policy, see https://help.ifixit.com/article/49-retur... for more details, but in summary: contact customer service within 30 days, and if the part is not defective, you're responsible for the shipping costs both ways.

In regards to the three beeps, there are a few common reasons (which I have ordered in order of difficulty and/or risk to your data):

  • Your TV's HDMI-CEC may be attempting to turn the PlayStation off in an improper way.
    • Try using another display, such as a computer monitor. If it works, I recommend disabling the CEC controls.
    • On the PS5, go to Settings > System > HDMI > Enable Power Off Link and uncheck it.
  • Your console is overheating.
    • Cleaning out the dust may fix the console if this is the case.
  • Your power supply is no longer functioning properly.
  • Your PS5 is shutting off while attempting to access the storage. (Unfortunately, the solution to this involves reformatting your system, so you will lose any data that is not saved in the cloud.)
    • Boot your PS5 into safe mode by holding the power button until you hear a second beep.
      • If your console beeps three times, unplug the power cable, leave your console unplugged for at least 20 minutes to fully drain the power from the console (some users had to wait 12-24 hours), and try again.
      • Select "Reset PS5" to reformat your system.

Hopefully one of these solutions fixes the issue for you, and I'm happy to answer any additional questions you may have!
