3 beeps so I have to reset the memory module. Do you think this might be the reason why it’s not producing an image?

by

@alibubbba

If there's a memory problem then the laptop is most probably failing POST (power on self test) and not even fully starting, therefore no display

When the laptop is started it does a self test of the hardware before booting into Windows (which is software) to make sure that most of the hardware is working OK e.g. memory, video, CPU, fan BIOS etc.

If there's a problem it gives a series of beeps to tell the user what the problem may be

Remove/disconnect the battery from the laptop before reseating the memory module as you don't want to cause any more problems.

If reseating the module doesn't fix the problem, you may have to replace it

@jayeff I just bought new sticks. I’ll I install them and let you know. Current the desktop has Nanya NT1GT64U8HB0BY

New ones just bought

Crucial RAM 16GB Kit (2x8GB) DDR4 3200MHz CL22 (or 2933MHz or 2666MHz) Desktop Memory CT2K8G4DFRA32A

by

I just took out one of the sticks and put it back in and started up the desktop, and it gave me no beeps.

Although I’ve been doing that, and it hasn’t worked.

@alibubbba

It won't work with the new memory you bought.

The PC only supports DDR2-667 ram PC5300 (and possibly DDR3 memory but depends on chipset used) and not DDR4 ram as you have tried to use.

See the specifications

The PC is showing its age.

Memory compatibility is determined by the CPU and the chipset on the motherboard
