Damaged keyboard, external keyboard won’t work

My kids spilled milk on our MacBook Pro A1278.

this is not the first time. we had the keyboard replaced once already.

anyway, some of the keys no longer work, so we can’t log in.

I have plugged in two different usb keyboards both of which I know are not faulty, and they both behave in exactly the same way as the milk damaged MacBook keyboard! For example, the a,m and t keys don’t work on the laptop, and they dont work on the external keyboards either!

so I still can’t log in.

is it possible that I’ve set the keyboard into a weird mode when wiping it by pressing loads of keys together?

can anyone help?

many thanks,

john

Give this a try connect an external display to your system. Then using a USB connected keyboard and mouse restart your system, but this time close the display! This tells the system to use the external keyboard and clearly the external display as well!

What likely has happened is the systems keys are jammed so they are interfering with the external keyboards. Remember both keyboards are active when the display lid is open. Here we want to leverage the Clamshell mode.

Thanks Dan! Great idea. I’ll have to get hold of a thunderbolt adaptor to try this one. I think my friend has one. I’ll let you know how I get on.
