How to replace keyboard surrounding plastic?

In life as a college student, laptops are not always the luckiest. I'm looking to replace the keyboard's surrounding plastic as it's badly cracked. I think it is called upper housing.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hi @bookworm3616

To replace the top cover, you have to completely disassemble the laptop.

Also getting just the top cover replacement part and not the complete top cover/keyboard assembly may be hard as it comes as one complete module.

Not totally sure re this model but with a lot of other HP models (different series) the keyboard is "riveted" to the top cover by nylon type plugs, so if you do find a top cover minus the keyboard, you may be able to remove the keyboard in your laptop by either snipping off the plugs or melting them with a soldering iron or similar and then gluing (epoxy?) your keyboard back into the new top cover

Here's the maintenance and service guide, taken from this support webpage for the laptop.

Go to p.65 to find the part numbers for the various top cover/keyboards used in the model series and also the country specific suffixes required to amend the top cover/keyboard part number to suit your location.

Note that the top cover with keyboard information is at the very end of the Component Replacement Procedures i.e. complete disassembly.

Search online using the appropriate to your particular model variant top cover/keyboard part number only to find suppliers that suit you best.
