Keyboard not funtioning, trackpad working

So the keyboard on this MacBook is not working while the trackpad does. The system boots right up into internet recovery.

Steps I took:

  1. Connected an external keyboard, didn't work (except for the arrow keys(!))
  2. Disconnected the trackpad cable inside the macbook
  3. Connected an external keyboard, works!

As I understand there was some spill on the keyboard, inside I don't see any traces of that and the logic board seems to work OK.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Did you fully remove the logic board? Often times it’s the other side that get the damage (the side you don’t see)

Yes I did, it looks very clean.

@egbertkappert - Carefully inspect the keyboard cables connection to the logic board for damaged pins and/or replace it.

@danj It's been a while. I did replace the cable, it didn't help. I find it strange that when disconnecting the trackpad cable the external keyboard functions fully, but when the trackpad cable is connected the external keyboard's keys don't work except for the arrow keys.

@egbertkappert - Then you have a short witching the cables path! Did you have a liquid spill into the keyboard or touchpad? One of them is the failure.

@danj Thanks for your answer. There was some spill yes.
