My dishwasher is actually a Whirlpool Goldseries . A knife with a plastic handle accidentally melted on my heating element. It is stuck there now. How can I remove it without damaging the heating element? Also how do I know which plug is which under the sink? Disposal and Dishwasher. Thank you.

@polly88412 get yourself an inexpensive heat gun and apply that heat to the plastic on the heating element. You won't melt the element but just get it hot enough so you can remove the molten plastic.

Thank you oldturkey03. Do you think a blow dryer would do the same? I have a blow dryer I could try...

@polly88412 it won't get hot enough to melt the plastic.

One more question... ( yes I have many) I am 81 years and a widow so I am learning how to do all of these things now......do I put the heat gun right on the plastic or just apply it to the heating element to heat that up... or?

Thanks.

@polly88412

I would apply it to the plastic (not touching) as it will absorb the heat and you can then pull it off as it softens.

If you apply it to the heater element, being metal, it will disperse the heat as most probably it has a bigger surface area
