@danj - By any chance do you have the pinout/values of the the display connections?

The older Unibody systems use LVDS signaling which is dependent on a dual connection for the active line. Here’s a good write up Low-voltage differential signaling.
Without understanding what you are trying to do it would be hard to offer a signal breakdown as the way it works is a bit more complex.
