Modern smartphone screens are generally made up of two pieces that are glued together:

  1. The digitizer, which registers your touch
  2. The LCD or OLED display, which shows you an image

Commonly, after you drop a device, one or both of these may break. If the LCD or OLED display breaks you will instantly know because the screen will have a line running through it, may appear blotchy, and otherwise be distorted. The digitizer can include the glass being cracked but it may not show any visible signs of damage and instead be indicated by touch issues such as the ones you've mentioned.

I would recommend replacing your screen to see if that resolves the issue. If you do decide to replace the screen yourself, be sure to order the full display assembly and not just the digitizer, though it will be more expensive. It is almost impossible for DIYers to repair a broken digitizer without the LCD/OLED display component and you may end up spending more money in the process. Here's an example of what you'll want to purchase.

@allandatizon as @cvneutron already suggested, change your display to get your touchscreen function back. Use the guide from here to do so.

While you work on your phone, take lots of pictures. Once you are done with it, take those pictures and create a guide for iFixit. That will help the next person that has the same problem as you do. It's easy and fun to create these guides. https://ifixit.com/Guide/new The iFixit community will appreciate this.
