Broken pins on command key (butterfly)

I have a MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2016) where these two pins are broken on the command-key (see picture).

Is it possible to repair this in any way without replacing the whole top case? The local Apple Genius Bar says no.

Thanks for your help

I’m not sure which part is damaged here. If it’s the plastic parts they can be replaced, the metal studs can’t be without a full keyboard replacement which really needs a new uppercase assembly here as your battery likely needs replacing too!

While one can replace the keyboard assembly alone, it’s a very big job! It’s not something I recommend for a first timer as there is a bit of mechanical force needed which needs to be metered out so you don’t damage the uppercase frame And as I stated the age of this system brings to question what’s left of the batteries life, let alone the physical trauma you will subject to it trying to get it out

Can you give us a bit more detail here so we can aim you to the correct direction that’s needed

Sorry, Apple messed up! And you could ended up holding the doggy bag in this series.

Thanks for your reply. Yes Apple messed up. And I already replaced the top case twice on this specific computer (through Apple Care), I also replaced the monitor, so the computer although old, is in good shape except for this key.

It's the white plastic part that's broken. Two pins are missing, see picture, inside the two red circles. They hold the lower side of the key cap. Now it's loose, it sort of still works but it comes loose...

Can this be replaced and where can I find this white plastic part? Thanks for your help.

@janerikmaangs - Here’s where I go TheBookYard UK: KeyCaps parts for MacBook Pro 2012 ~ 2015

Click on the keys group image to dive deeper to find the needed parts.

Thanks, I looked at TheBookYard, I found the (left command) key cap for my computer but not the clip (the text says "The clip is available separately if the original clip is damaged but be aware that swapping the butterfly clip is an extremely delicate procedure and can permanently damage your keyboard."). In my case the cap is ok, the clip is broken. I'll contact them to see what they say.

@janerikmaangs - it’s a bit tricky! But doable. If you’re set don’t forget to score the answer and accept it - Thanks!
