Can it operate without anything attached to the battery contacts?

Have to remove the battery; would be happy to operate it only while plugged in to a charger; will it work with nothing attached to the battery contacts? Have seen some guides for adding a resistor to simulate the presence of a battery, but will it work without further modification?

Options

Without battery will not starting. You can give directy on the battery connector 3,7-4,2V and it will work, but from usb without battery not possible. Bypass with resistor is not possible, there is data communications with the battery.
