2 keys on keyboard not working

I have a early 2020 MBP where the A key and the D key do not work. I checked under key cap and theres no debris. What are other steps I can do so i dont have to purchase a whole top case just for these 2 keys. the top case that in there now looks to be in prestine condition. Ive heard of different methods including heating with blow dryers and contact cleaner.

Update (06/07/23)

After buying a 300$ whole new topcase, the issue of A and D keys persists. Its now clear to me its the motherboard. What options do I have? I vaguely remember this units screen having water damadge and didnt think it had got to the board because it booted up and ran no issues. Ultrasonic cleaner is all I can think of

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hi

Usually it ends up in needing a new keyboard but cleaning with isopropyl alcohol can help

If that doesn’t work you could try (as a last resort) taking the backlight off the back of the keyboard and checking for any breaks in any of the clear flex cables

Might we worth checking the connection and cable for corrosion

After that it will probably need replacing;-(

Hopefully this helps

Any questions please ask

Thanks:-)

Turns out, it was the trackpad that needed to be swapped into new keyboard topcase
