I heard a thwack and machine stopped mid spin cycle.

7 yr old machine was in the final spin cycle when it suddenly revved up and sounded like a jet engine. Then there was a loud thwack, the machine stopped and the time display was flashing. I removed the back and found bits of hardened debris (possibly pieces of top front basin weight?) and rubber debris but the belt showed no obvious signs of wear. I removed the belt and found that the basin pulley would not turn...frozen. What should I do next?

Brian, sounds like you could have some problems with the counterweights or the shock absorber on your drum. It is possible that if your drum is of center or you got some debris binding it up somewhere, that it won't turn. Download the service manual from here and take a look at the tub, and the weights as well as the shock absorbers. Hope this helps, good luck.

Thank you for responding...I took the drum assembly out and seperated the front half of the plastic tub from the back half but I cannot seperate the stainless inner tub from the back half of the plastic tub. I removed a c-spring from the back but they still will not seperate. There does not appear to be any debris around the stainless inner tub so my fear is a broken spyder arm or a frozen bearing. any suggestions on how to seperate the two tubs?
