a factory issued 7/7+/8/8+/se2/se3 home button is electronically mated to the motherboard of the phone.

if you try to put an apple home button from one of those models and put it a different phone of the same model type, it will completely fail. unlike the 6/6+/6s/6s+ home buttons which would work except for the Touch ID.

your only option (other than paying Apple a ton of money to replace it) is to get a 3rd party (JC, HX, YF) home button which will restore home button functionality but not Touch ID.

not all 3rd party home buttons are created equal and some may just not be recognized altogether (and fail to render any functioning). word has it that with a JC V1SE or QuanLi programmer, you can copy the original home button's ID onto a 3rd party button which would have the phone see the new button as the "original button" and have the home button work properly. but you'd still lose Touch ID. there simply is no option to restore Touch ID without paying apple to do it.

hope this helps
