How much free space do you have on your startup disk?

You may need some file housekeeping. Get rid of old cached files & temp files (check out iBoostUp on the Apps store - Free).

Move any important files off to an external disk.

Once you've freed up aprox 1/4 of your HD disk of old files get a HD defrag program like Drive Genius.

Try to keep 1/4 free of HD space on your startup disk. You should see a huge improvement.

No worries.

Let's try clicking on System Preferences, then on Users & Groups, and click on Login Items. Kick them all out (delete) for now.

Secondly, if the issue still persists, Click on Application, click on Utilities, click on Activity Monitor and then see the apps or processes that are having maximum threads or using maximum real memory. If you find some, kill them meaning quit them or force quit them.

Now, proceed to the System Preferences again. Click on Security & Privacy, click on Firewall, click on Advanced... and then kick out all for now meaning remove them all for now to see if some are really nasty.

Restart your computer and cheer up with the new speed. If not, let me know. You may also write to me via http://acmt.newroadplaza.org
