Random crashes or freezing

Hi,

My computer sometimes crashes or freezes. More often crashes shwoing a black screen with lots of small rectangles which look like they might be dialogue boxes but are very hard to see, as they're so small. It also occasionally freezes, the track pad doesn't allow you to click down. I hold down the power button to reset it, sometimes this can take multiple attempts. The speakers dont work either if that makes a difference, they failed just outside of the apple warranty. I did try new speakers but it made no difference.

Hopefully you can help, thanks!

You maybe pressing your system too hard! This sounds like your systems logic board is overheating and/or the GPU VRAM is failing.

I would run the onboard diagnostics to see if something popped up. Restart your system and press the D startup key.

I would also install a good thermal monitoring app so you can monitor and push the cooling a bit harder when needed. I would use this one TG Pro it offers logging which in your case would catch the time point just before failure.

Hi,

Thanks for the response, it can do it even just after its turned on so maybe the logic board needs replacing.

Cheers

@candy21905 - I would find a good Mac repair shop to see if the logic board can be repaired as that would be cheaper than replacing it, besides You may need a new battery if you haven’t replaced it yet as it’s going on eight years now.
