How to safely remove a battery that ripped open during removal?

Hello there,

I have attempted to remove my phone battery after looking some infos online but did not have isopropyl alcohol on hand, and thus when I started to lift the battery and tried to remove it with my "Jimmy", I ended up damaging and ripping open the battery which was held too tight by the tape, and it briefly caught fire so I stopped and put my phone outside for now.

I looked up afterwards the iFixit video which recommends to keep the battery at low capacity and obviously forgot to do it so for now I'm leaving the phone outside with hope that it discharges slowly by itself. My question is : how can I safely remove the battery now that it's open on a side ? Is there any risk in using rubbing/isopropyl alcohol and end up having some potentially reach the opened side of the husk of the battery ? This phone is expensive and I have a lot of important data on it which I do not want to lose...

Many thanks in advance for your help.

@nithraniel "and it briefly caught fire" the damage is done and behind you. Lessons learned for the next time. You could use the alcohol and proceed with the removal. Just like anything else in life, use common sense and don't get ahead of yourself. Do a bit at a time and no reason to flood the phone with the IPA
