Shattered look but is fine?

My kindle has always worked fine, but I haven't used it in a while since I've been busy. I just tried to turn it on and it looked shattered and had a weird colourful line glitch across the screen. It isn't physically shattered, nor is it just the home screen image. It has nothing on it, it's just a black screen with coloured lines across it and a large "crack" through the middle

@witchercan, I have to agree with @strongbow that it sounds like a broken LCD. The screen assembly usually consists of multiple layers; generally there is a backlight layer, an LCD layer and on top a digitizer or touch screen layer. It is entirely possible and not at all uncommon for the LCD layer to get broken but leave the digitizer or front glass layer untouched.

Best thing to do is to add a picture of your screen to your question so we can see exactly what you're talking about.

Looks like the lcd needs replacing. Sustained damage somehow.
