Nintendo switch is charging, but not outputting to a TV.

I'm pretty good with tech, so I took apart this dock and another dock in my house and swapped parts to narrow down the issue. I read another question similar, but with no answers that helped my case.

After testing with other dock parts, I figured out that the problem is with the USB-C flex cable that goes from where the switch docks to the mobo, so thankfully, the mobo isn't damaged. Just wondering if there is a fix to that cable, as Nintendo's website is horrible when it comes to Q and A for me.

Hi Ethan,

I've done a lot of work on my granddaughter's Switch, but haven't had any need to get into the dock so far.

But I'm curious; did you narrow it down to the ribbon cable itself, or is there a possibility that the port itself is at fault? It appears both of them are available as aftermarket replacement parts, so the obvious fix for either one being bad would be to replace it.

I am not for certain. All I know is that one of those 2 things is at fault. I can narrow it down in a few and figure it out. Thanks for the help!

@nahdoesntexist I'll be curious to hear what you find. Given that the port itself is subject to wear, that's what I suspect, but you're in a perfect situation to figure out which it is.

Turns out, I pulled the cable out to learn more, and it just started working. Thank you for the help, you basically got it fixed haha. Its really interesting the way tech does this, I had a PC with a similar problem and just pulling things out and putting them back in fixed it. Maybe the cable was seated wrong or something.

@nahdoesntexist Lol, that's great! Be nice if just reseating the cable fixes the problem when others come along with the same issue. At least now we've got something to suggest.

But yeah, entirely possible the ribbon cable just worked it's way loose; from reading the motherboard guide it's just a friction fit into the connector so it's going to be susceptible to coming loose from the dock getting jarred or dropped.

@dadibrokeit Figured I would let you know, update on the dock thing.

Dock works like normal OUSIDE the default plastic shell, but as soon as I put everything back in, it doesn't work again, same issue. I have no clue why.
