anyone have tips for optimizing one of these bad boys?

I just purchased this beast and have been trying to navigate my way through the sea of incompatible pro apps (adobe, final cut, quicktime etc) that I was using on my intell macbook pro. I purchased ram, and got some older versions of some of these programs. anyone know of a guide to set this monstrosity up?

You've moved from an Intel processor to an older Power PC processor. Usually you move the other way. Most of your software should be fine if you reinstall from the original installation disks.
