Multiple styles of flex cable on e-bay

I have the issue with greyed out wifi and bluetooth on a 2nd gen 8gig ipod touch I bought recently. I tried software restores per Apple's directions, still no go. I am thinking I need to replace the flex cable that appears to have the wifi chips on it.

Looking at ebay, I see what looks like 2 different styles for the 2nd gen ipod touch:

Are both compatible, and if not what is the difference?

1 appears to have the plastic frame for your wifi which will save you time... your second link? Check with oldturkey03 but I think this is the easier one for your purpose.

My colleague pollytintop is absolutely right. Both cables are the same. The first link "http://www.ebay.com/itm/260928528114?ssP... is just the cable without the plastic "frame "etc. the second one is the complete Wifi flex and plastic frame. I'd go for that one. Already assembled, decent price and a lot less chance of making mistakes. The reason why cable one looks funny to you; it still needs to be folded over ;-). Hope this clears it up.Good luck.

Thanks for the answers. I hadn't seen any videos showing how the plastic frame and cable attached.

I've ordered the one with the plastic frame, and the conductive tape. I'm also replacing the battery at the same time. Hopefully I can make this 2nd gen ipod touch as good as new.

Well, the one that I ordered that showed the plastic frame came without the frame. Anyway, I replaced the wifi cable and the battery, but now the unit doesn't seem to come up. I'll go over all the connections again.

I hope you get this working as I am about to try a new flex cable too. Maybe your flex cable is a bit crooked. Those traces are pretty close together and the slightest skew could cause it to not boot.

I know my ipod will boot without the flex cable attached, so you might want to check bootability if you take that cable off again just to make sure it's still good.
