Refrigerator and freezer not cooling at all

We have an LG refrigerator and freezer(not like the one pictured) we have french doors for the refrigerator, the freezer is on the bottom.

Water and ice maker on the outside. It seems to have lost power due to a storm. It was the only thing in the house to go out. I unplugged and plugged it back in. (The extent of my expertise) it seemed to work momentarily(light came on) then nothing.

It is a big paperweight now. LG "customer service" says we bought it 2013. Can have a tech come out for $600, that will cover parts, labor and service call for ONLY 90 days.

What should I do? Thank you for any help.

Gail

Hi @gail8142

Do the lights still work in the refrigerator?

If not then it seems that there's no power coming from the control board to supply the lights. As there was a power failure you may want to inspect the control board and check for any obvious component damage. Do this with the power totally disconnected from the refrigerator.

Looking at a parts diagram for the model, the control board (part #500A) is located at the back of the refrigerator cabinet, presumably behind a removable panel.

If the lights work then here's the not cooling troubleshooting flowchart from the service manual for the model that may help.

If all this seems too daunting, contact a reputable, professional refrigerator repair service (or two) and ask how much they charge to come and check it out.
