Laptop will not turn on.

My Lenovo YOGA 720-IKB will not turn on. The power button fades off and on to show that it is in standby, but it will not go any further than standby. If I touch the keyboard it turns all the way off.

No change at all.

Found a new power supply, and it boots up, what is really interesting is that this power supply is the wrong amperage, whereas the original power supply is correct. I did test the power supply on another laptop and it worked on it. This laptop also refused to take a charge from a USB-C charger which is supposed to workl.

Amperage is to do with the "stength" of the energy.

If it is not strong enough then internal electical components will be strained.

A bit higher amperage will just mean there is energy to spare.

So nothing unusual there. The original one may have been "just enough" and so had a shorter life.

What is interesting is that this new power supply has less amperage, which is why it surprised me. Doesn't appear to be straining the system, but I'll probably be buying another of the correct voltage/amperage soon.

Considering what you said it would seem that the power supply you had was faulty, maybe a bad capacitor which would allow to show on a multimeter to have the continuous correct voltage but once under a bigger load the cap heats up and the amperage and voltage drops. It is permissable to go as much as 3 volts above what's called for but no more than 3 volts.

Of course I cannot say for sure but sounds like the battery is dead. Some machines will preserve enough battery life to continue storing your installed programs. Sounds simple I know but...

That's what I figured, but it doesn't fix anything. No matter how long I charge it it won't boot. I know it's charging as it wouldn't turn on when I got it, and the power light by the power input lights up.

Check the power supply. One of the first things to check when your laptop is not turning on is the AC adapter (power cord). ...

Faulty screen.

Check for incompatible hardware.

Replace battery.

CMOS battery.

I have checked everything but the CMOS battery (it doesn't have a removeable one) and the screen. I will work on that tonight, hopefully.

Well you can try:

  1. Unplug the power cable from your laptop.
  2. Locate and remove the battery.
  3. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
  4. Re-insert the battery and plug in your laptop.
  5. Attempt a restart and cross your fingers.
