Can I transfer pictures with a broken screen?

I dropped my phone in water and the screen stopped working and responding. It still responds with Vibrations when turned into silent mode and I turned the flash light on by accident too. I was wondering if there is any way I can recover my pictures to my new phone that were not yet backed up on my iCloud Photos.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

I know it might not be the best solution but if the charging port is still working something that you might be able to do is grab a lightning to hdmi. You can probs pick one up from any Best Buy/ Apple Store/ anywhere where Apple products are sold. But from there as long as the touch screen works you can backup your data onto any cloud service as needed. Here’s a link showing such a adapter in action https://youtu.be/p1LJtCRfdlM

There are shops which specialize on fixing water damaged phones. They are skilled on micro-soldering as often times one needs to patch the phone back together enough to salvage the data. Here’s one in the states iPadRehab there are others out there in distant lands! Like Australia and New Zealand.

Screen is always the first to go with liquid damage. A new screen will have it working again. A shop should be able to clean the board with a ultrasonic cleaner.

@jameslafontaine this will all depend on you skill and comfort level. If you are comfortable to work on your phone and have the skills and tools, give this a try.

First you want to stop continuing to try to charge, sync or otherwise use your phone. This potentially can make a bad situation worse. This may further damage your phone.

The next thing to do is to clean it. Disassemble your phone using these guides You must remove all EMI shields. If you do not remove those, you might as well not do anything. After you remove those, clean the whole board, connectors and all with +90% isopropyl alcohol. Follow this guide Even so it was written for an iPhone 3G all the points are still pertinent to your phone. While you clean your board, check for any obvious damage, like burned or missing components etc. When it is properly cleaned, replace the battery. All these steps are to avoid delayed failure caused by corrosion. Best thing to do would be to clean it with an ultrasonic cleaner, but if you do not have access to one, this will at least help. Once all of this is done, reassemble your phone and reevaluate. Until it is cleaned, everything will only be a guess. It is possible that you have a bad LCD and replacing the display assembly may fix it. Even with all this, water damage has only a small chance to be fully repaired, but at least you can give it a try.

If you have the display working again, access your phone and safe the images etc. to iCloud or anywhere you like.

If you are not comfortable working on this phone, let us know where you reside so we can suggest repairers for you.
