Can you replace the FaceID sensors with third-party parts?

Can you replace the FaceID sensors with third-party parts or swap FaceID parts from another iPhone to another iPhone like the dot projector and IR camera? How do you know when you buy a refurbished iPhone that the FaceID sensors are original and not third-party parts or have been replaced or tampered with?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Short answer? No. If you replace the face ID module with another that did not come with the phone, it will not function. If a phone has working face ID, it's the original components. Hope this helps!

Basically, the FaceID or TouchID unit is married to the logic board never to be switched out.

Hi

As @ezzgen and @danj have said, Face ID isn’t replaceable(only apple can replace it)

However

If you have extraordinary micro-soldering skills you may be able to diagnose and potentially fix the issue

this would be doable if the issue was something like a broken trace on the cable

Hopefully this helps

Any questions please ask

Thanks:-)

So you can switch say the dot projector with an aftermarket or non-original part if you have good soldering skills?

@ahawkua - Sorry the projector pattern is not consistent across the units. As such the stored data will be invalid. You then get caught in a Catch22 problem.

Sounds like you need to visit an Apple Store or send it in for repair.

I'm just asking to make sure when I buy a refurbished iPhone it doesn't have unsafe aftermarket FaceID parts. Apple says that it could cause injury to your skin or eyes.

@ahawkua

If your buying a used on I would buy one that has working Face ID As 99% of people won’t go and fix a dead Face ID module, they will most likely replace it:-)

So you can replace FaceID parts like the dot protector or IR camera with aftermarket non-genuine parts is what you're saying?
