Screen very dark after replacement?

So I've replaced my screen with a new one, brought over the earpiece and now the screen is very dark. Face ID works fine and all. I've read that the ambient light sensor if damaged, will result in having the lowest possible brightness.

However, I moved back the earpiece to the original screen and brightness just worked as it should. Then I put it back on the new screen and it doesn't work. Of course, for sanity check, I moved it back onto the original screen and it all just works.

Is it possible that the new screen needs to be reprogrammed first for the brightness to work? What a goofy issue.

Hi Remy,

I haven't run into a situation where the screen programming caused any kind of issue like you're describing. However, around here we've seen several cases where new screens came with protective layers of plastic down inside unlikely locations. Mostly it happens with the cameras, but I don't see any reason why the opening for the ambient light sensor would be immune from random protective sheets.

Basically, take out the ALS and check the opening in the display for anything in there there could be blocking the light for the sensor.

That's my best guess; let us know what you find.
