mac installation fails and restarts after selecting disk

I'm trying to do a fresh macOS installation on my 2017 macbook pro but it freezes when the progress bar starts, then "your computer restarted because of a problem" message shows up and restarts. Same happens when I try to restore using time machine. Ps: I have the lcd cable disconnected.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Are you in recovery mode? You should try erasing and re formatting your disk, and then reinstalling macOS.

I have done all the above but it still fails. Could it be the usb-c hub I'm using? I tried a different yet similar hub today and it still failed.

Try changing that… It could also be a thermal issue. Make sure you have the back cover on your Mac; that acts as a heat spreader.

@ryan39167 - This series doesn’t use the case as a heat spreader/sink. If offers a proper heatsink and fan.

@chillin_otb - What happens after you connect the display back in & any other parts, minus the bottom cover. Then with the charger plugged in restart the system and pressing the D key to enter into diagnostics. Are you able to get that far and running diagnostics did you get any errors? If you did tell us what you got.
