Yamaha HTR5940 Won’t Turn On

It was working fine when I last played it a day ago. I was moving things around in my room and I disconnected it. Once I reconnected it and tried to power it on, nothing happened. Not even the click sound. It shows no signs of life. I tried unplugging it for some time and plugging it back in and it didn’t work.

Some things that did concern me before was that the inside was a bit dusty and when I played music, it made a fuzzy and static like sound over the actual song I was listening to after a few minutes of play time. I also spilled some water near it when I was cleaning.

I have no prior experience in audio repair and I looked around the internet for solutions and I don’t know what to do.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Hi @vince112 ,

Did any water penetrate the receiver at all?

If so water and electricity are not a good mix and since there's no indication that the receiver has power, the first thing to check after the boards have been thoroughly cleaned and dried of any moisture, would be to check that the power input circuit is OK

Here's an image from the service manual that may give an idea of what's involved.

It is a block diagram representation but there are detailed schematics as well in the manual.

If you are unfamiliar with using schematics or testing when lethal AC voltage is present, contact a reputable, professional audio electronics repair service and ask for a quote.
