Why is my mac starting up with a question mark

i started my mac with then progress bar freezed then i restarted then question mark shows up i watch youtube i press command+r and then takes me to recovery mode then i go to disk then i press erase and it says unable to read the last block of this device

Do you know if this is the original HDD or was it replaced with a SSD?
