macOS High Sierra taking forever to install

Hi,

i replaced the hdd to ssd and i wanted to install macos, the installer was laggy and when it gets to the step when it shows the apple logo and progress bar, the instalation starts to take almost forever, for last 2 hours its cycling among "9 minutes left", and "calculating remaining time", if its important i also upgraded ram from 4 gb to 16 gb.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Yep! A common issue!

Your system was originally configured with a SATA II (3.0 Gb/s) drive and the HD cable likewise was spec’ed SATA II. That’s not to say you can’t install a SATA III (6.0 Gb/s) drive HDD or SSD you just need to replace the HD cable.

Needed cable: MacBook Pro 13" Unibody (Early 2011-Late 2011) Hard Drive Cable

But you should start afresh reformatting the drive before starting over. I do recommend you setup from a second Mac or before you start from your Mac a bootable OS USB thumb drive to speed up the install.

Download a fresh copy of High Sierra from here How to download macOS as older installers have an expired certificate! Follow this guide to create the bootable OS installer Create a bootable installer for macOS

@gromas112 - it’s all related to a crappy cable Apple designed. Remember a desktop uses a much thicker cable than. What a laptop uses. This is also a problem with other laptops of this generation.

Trust me I’ve done tones of these! Here’s another source to sway you Your Hard Drive Cable Is A Ticking Time Bomb I also would put the electrician tape on as well one strip is all that’s needed for the wider part.

@danj idk if its a cable thing, the laptop has a dead battery and cpu clock is locked at 700mhz, i will buy a new battery and see if that helps the problem even a little, i live in poland so 39 bucks is alot there, funny again, my hp elitebook from 2011 runs w11 like a charm with ssd

@gromas112 - Give this a try if you think you have a bad battery. Install this gem of an App CoconutBattery post a snapshot so we can see your batteries condition.

If it’s bad just remove it! Your system will still run without it and if that was the issue you would see a difference.

@danj i removed the battery and it runs alot better, currently im waiting for replacement
