How to tell if bearings or rotor need to be replaced?

The washer is making a noise when spinning. Does not appear to be the bearings. Is it possible that a small rock or object got through the holes in the drum? If so, can I remove it or could it be something else? How can you tell if it is the rotor or bearing that needs to be replaced?

Is it a screeching noise? Undo the top lid and check the belt. Could be slipping.
