Vertical color stripes and black blotches on white screen

I replaced my cracked screen with one from amazon (OEM planet). Prior to replacement the device, other than the cracked screen, was working fine.

After replacement I have a white screen with colored vertical lines and three black blotches at the top of screen. I did a reset a number of times and then a restore in itunes but still got the same screen. Itunes recognizes the device so logic board seems intact.

I rechecked the two connections and the copper shields and they appear to be attached correctly.

Any thoughts? Is my replacement screen defective or do I have a more serious problem?

You always want to test the screen before hand that way you know if it came lIke that or not. Unfourtanatly it's kinda hard to test the 4th gen digitizer, but you can always check the LCD pretty easily. Just make sure the cables are connected and then turn it on before putting it all the way together.

Yes I would say your screen is broken, but you can always try your old LCD again given that it's still in one piece

Thanks for your comment. I thought about putting my old screen back in but the glass is too shattered to be safe to use. Luckily I did test the screen before I put it back together as you suggested.

The vendor responded in record time and will be sending another screen. Guess they considered my description of the problem with the one they sent to be sufficiently damaged to warrant the expense of sending another. Still curious to determine what the vertical colored stripes are the result of.

its probably the LCD is messed up. because when i was messing around with my ipod and i took off the Digitizer and LCD, i pressed it too hard and it popped up with black spots and a white screen

Interesting that pressing too hard will cause the blotches. I did not apply any pressure at all to the digitizer during installation. This would lead me to believe the item was defective prior to my receipt.

Any idea what has caused the vertical colored stripes?
