Rev counter keeps jumping

I have a 2010 Toyota Avensis 1.8 litre car. Problem is that when driving it, the rev counter keeps jumping from 2 to 3 and back to 2. The car makes a revving noise and wants to go up a gear even if I'm doing 60 miles an hour in 6th gear it gives a rev and wants to go up a gear. When I'm driving from 1st to 2nd it's revs and won't accelerate . This is extremely annoying as it nearly got me killed at junctions.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Hi,

Get the vehicle's OBDII port scanned with a scantool, to check if any codes are shown.

It may be a problem with the throttle position sensor (TPS) and if so it will show up as a fault code.

Some major retail auto parts stores in the USA will do this for free apparently
