My Headset is not being recognized.

Hi, over the past couple of weeks I have struggled with Valve's support team in order to discover what the issue is with my headset. To quote they state,
"This appears to be caused by an internal failure of some kind related to the tracking system in the headset.

A device replacement will be necessary to resolve this, unfortunately. "

I would rather not spend 500 dollars to replace the headset. How can I repair this issue myself?
