water filter not heavy with water when replacing

Kenmore Elite. When replacing water filter (every 6 months) I noted the old one I pulled out is not heavy with water like usual. Feels dry like a new one. Been doing it for years. Cant find any troubling referencing this issue anywhere. I have to assume the filter is not filtering anything
