The left touch sensor stopped working randomly

i used to be able to temporarily turn on ambient mode by putting my hands on both sided sensors but it stopped working and only activates by covering the right sensor with my right hand? am i just hallucinating or what? was the left sensor always a thing?

There is no left side touch sensor only right. There are 2 buttons on the left.
