USB port replacement for Compaq Armada E500

I have this very old laptop Compaq Armada E500 (not 7800!), which has only one USB port (I think it is 1.1 standard). As the port was broken inside I bought online a new port and solder it in place of the old one. Still the USB port don't recognize any device. It detects the device but then it says that there is a problem installing new device. It is not drivers problem, I tried 4 different operating systems, including Linux. There is a voltage on the port of 5V.

What could I do next? I don't have any schematics for this board. How to know if some capacitors or resistors that usb port uses are maybe broken as well?

Don't know Linux but what does Windows Device Manager show for the USB Host Controller > properties and Root Hub > Properties?

Does it show that it is installed and working OK?

What is the make and model number of the motherboard (printed on the board itself)? Not the HP part number.

Yes, both are installed and working ok. When I plug in USB device it shows as unknown device and then it disappears after (Windows 98 disables it automatically). Windows 98 - I know :D

Unfortunately, I can't find any information about the motherboard schematics.

I know that you said that the USB port has +5V on it but does it also have a Ground on pin 4.

If not that's maybe why the port isn't working as the USB device can't power up properly. Does it power up a mouse or charge a phone OK?

Also double check that there are no solder bridges between the USB pins on the motherboard - never hurts to check twice ;-)

Apologies if you measured between pin 1 and pin 4 to check the voltage is OK.

It may be that you will have to locate the USB controller chip on the motherboard (which you know can communicate OK with the chipset as it is OK in Device Manager) and check the +ve and -ve data wires from the USB port to the USB controller are OK, although it could be that the USB controller is built into the southbridge side of the motherboard chipset

Hi, yes, I measured between pins 1 and 4, and I do have a ground on pin 4. No bridges between pins as far as I can see. I will upload one more photo of the soldering. There are 2 holes as this USB port that I bought has a bit different mounting points. When I connect the phone, nothing happens.
