iPhone 8 rear camera issue

iphone 8 rear camera is having issues. when i select the camera icon, the image is wavy (think image on the surface of a flag fluttering in the breeze). also hear a rapid clicking sound while this is happening (turn off the camera, no sound).

i'm thinking this might have something to do with auto-focus or image-stabilization features, but that's just a SWAG. if it is related to auto-focus, where is the auto-focusing sensor located? if it is related to image stabilization, where is that sensor located? or could this just be as simple as replacing the rear camera?

would like advice from those who have been-there-fixed-that.

Thanks and Cheers

found the answer - there is a mechanical component inside the rear camera assembly for auto-focusing. not exactly sure what went wrong, but the rapid clicking seems to a motor in the camera trying to focus and re-focus and re-focus in rapid succession. i pulled a camera from a good phone and dropped it and it worked as expected. i put the suspect camera into the other phone and reproduced the problem.

diagnosis - rear camera needs replacing. now the question is do i buy used OEM on eBay or new 3rd party manufacture from here (or injured gadgets/mobile sentrix/etc).

Used oem, just make sure the seller accepts returns in case of any problems. If listed as tested then hopefully there shouldn’t be.
