MacBook Pro won't boot but the Disk drive makes noise. What do I do?

Hi guys

I'm leaving the country today. I'm taking my MacBook pro with me, but I tried to start it on my connecting flight and it won't boot. I press the power and the led on the front will turn on and the disk drive spins and stops, spins and stops. This happens forever spin and stop.

I attempted to start in safe mode, reset the pram, svram, and the smc reset. The keyboard caps lock light won't turn on.

This happened a couple days after I replaced the old apple battery with a new off brand battery but I doubt that has anything to do with it

When I get to where I'm going I'm going to try reseating the ram and test the ram slots

Please help!

i fixed it! reseated the RAM and its working so far. i assume that was the issue that the RAM was loose. its possible since my computer had been bumping around in my carryon luggage. however it didn't seem loose when i checked the RAM slot. oh well. a fix is a fix. thanks for the replies guys!

Press the test button on the battery to see if it has a charge. I've had knock off batteries last only four cycles. If your battery drains below about 15% it will not start till it has about a 20% charge. How's your light on the MagSafe, what color is it when you plug it in and does it change?

I recommend getting an Apple brand 85 watt AC Adapter. The A1226 or A1260 MacBook Pro 15" can have problems starting up if they don't have an 85 watt adapter.

I noticed your post on that other thread so it makes sense that computer won't boot when running without a battery, but that doesn't solve my basic issue
