Duck hunt zapper not working

I have the original zapper and game, including the old screen (the NES and tv are a set) and all the answers I'm finding are about the LCD screens but that's not my issue. The zapper doesn't seem to be registering the clicks at all, the ammo on the screen doesn't go down. I took it apart and everything seems to be connected correctly still. Is there something else preventing it from working or connecting properly that I could fix?

Answer this question I have this problem too

@neuroillogic let's assume for now that it is not your TV and that the CRT does exactly what it is supposed to do. In that case I would think it is the light sensor in the "Zapper" Post some really good pictures of all the internals with your QUESTION so we can see what you see. You want to check the switch with a multimeter and make sure that it works.Hopefully we can find something to help you out.
