Best dual CPU option

Hi guys,

I want upgrade Mac Pro 2008 3.1 to better CPU. Currently I have 2x 2.8GHz (E5462). I know that this model was also made with 2x 3.2GHz (X5482), but can I use 2x 3.4GHz (X5692) ?

Thanks a lot for any advice/ideas.

Sorry, the best you can use is 3.2 GHz Quad Core Xeon X5482 x2. The systems firmware wouldn’t allow anything newer.

Oh so it’s limited by system firmware - I didn’t know where is issue as X5482 and X5492 are “same” CPU only different is MHz.
