I need advice on powering a PS2 slim

Ok so as some of you may know the PS2 slim takes 8.5V, I don't have a power adaptor for it but I have a multi adaptor that fits, the problem is it goes 7.5V to 9V and on 7.5 it powers on but looses power and turns off when reading a disc, so my question is can I turn it to 9V without it exploding something, I cannot afford to replace it or buy a real power adaptor at the moment and only need it temporarily i'm just fixing it for a friend

@cai20 the 0.5V will be within the tolerance for your power board. I'd be far more concerned about if your power supply can provide the 5.3Amps for your PS2. BTW that could/would also be the reason why it shuts down on the 7.5V. Anyhow, if it does provide that amperage then use it on the 9V settings. If you are really unsure about it, use a resistor in between to decrease the voltage. As you might know you can figure out the resistance by R=V/A V is the difference in voltages (9-8.5=0.5) and A is whatever amperage your power supply provides. Like I said even that resistance is most likely so minimal that it becomes negligible. Let us know what you find out.

That makes sense and after I rechecked the power adaptor it only puts out out 1.3 amps so not enough for it and I'm guessing I can't run it on only 1.3 amps so I'll need to look for alternatives

@cai20 that is correct :-)
