Why do I have an extra screw?

I followed the guide from How Fixit and even checked the guide here. I did the guide twice and for some reason, I have one 8.8mm screw and I can’t seem to figure out where it’s from. All the screws are in place according to the guides. Even when disassembling from start to finish and reassembling it back, I still can’t figure out where this one extra screw came from. Anyone have any idea where I should look?

Hi @kain05

Looking at the ifixit Xbox Series X Motherboard and Heatsink Assembly Replacement guide, there are 15 x 8.8mm screws.

If you open the guide and then do a search function (in Windows - Control key + f key then type 8.8 in the search box) it gives the location of the screws in the guide.

Hopefully you may find where the extra one goes.

Thanks for the fast reply. But all the 8.8 screws that show up during the search on that page, have already been put in the same places. Is there other 8.8 mm screws on the Series X? Maybe one came loose somewhere else and I didn’t notice.

@kain05 there are 22 x 8.8mm screws shown in the Southbridge shield guide for the console.

Obviously some are the same but that means 7 more screws to check

Is that the only other guide with 8.8mm screws? If there is another guide with 8.8mm screws, post it. I don’t mind checking to make sure. I mean the console is working as it did before I disassembled it so. Plus, the more I do it, eventually I won’t even need the guide anymore. Also, thanks for the help.

@kain05

If you click on the device icon to the right of your question at the top of this page it will open the page with all the guides for the device.

Alternatively, here it is

I went for the ones which I thought would require the most dis-assembly to get at but I didn't look at all of them

Cheers

Thanks @jayeff

I appreciate the help. I’ll search within the pages for 8.8mm screws. Hopefully I’ll find out where this mystery screw came from lol. When I do, I’ll post it. Thanks again, I appreciate it.
