Hi Stephen, just to clarify, are you asking if we can sell just the cap of the joystick in our iFixit store?

by

@amber Yes, that would be nice. No idea if Valve has them to sell on iFixit. But would be nice to not have to desolder them from the original sticks if you are replacing with 3rd party hall sensor sticks. Valve adds some glue to the solder joint and it took some research and doing to get them removed safely from the original stick's PCBs.

Thanks for your feedback, it sounds like you were in quite the sticky situation. I'll pass this along to the folks who work with Valve.

I guess the question is, can you "downgrad" a MHDA Steamdeck with a combination of 3rd party Hall Sensor Sticks and just MEDA keycaps. At the moment there are no Hall Sensors modules aviable that support the MHDA Keycaps on the Steam Deck

by

We, just like Valve, only support and sell the complete modules. We're not sure if it's possible to do all that, but the community is free to experiment to their heart’s content, though!

I asked around while I was waiting for your reply. Unfortunately, Valve designed the capacitive touch cap with a wire that’s soldered to the board. Your two options would be to scavenge one from a broken device or to just replace the entire thumbstick module should be replaced as a unit.
