Broken iPod screen replacement

The front glass is cracked on my iPod 4th generation touch. Do I need to replace the screen, and digitizer? Or just the glass screen?

Thanks Joel. There is no bleeding or anything like that. Only the screen is cracked, and spidered out. The iPod works perfectly fine, all buttons are working. Just the cracked screen is the issue. I'm not sure if that helps to narrow it down, I'm not familiar with the parts on the iPod. If I just need to replace the glass screen, what do you recommend buying?

The simplest way to find that out is by looking at the screen and identify if any part is blacked out or *bleeding. If the screen is simply cracked but the image is still visible then it is likely it is only the digitizer. Additionally you can remove the digitizer and power on the device without it to see if there is any damage to the LCD.

*A bleeding screen would be one that the colors are present, but irregular and distorted, causing a section of the image to be indiscernible.

That is great news. I find that you can get some pretty good deals for digitizers from eBay or Amazon. As a note, If you have never replaced your digitizer before you should heed the warnings from the wonderful replacement guide provided on this side. The digitizer cable is indeed fragile and should be installed with great care. Below I have provided links to assist in your repair.
